Festeggiare un anniversario significa ripensare al tempo trascorso, al modo in cui Cosimo Piovasco di Rondo dimostra oggi la sua eta; ma significa anche tornare con la memoria ai tempi in cui quel giovane ribelle nacque. Cosi, questo intervento prova a tracciare una rapida fotografia del momento storico in cui Italo Calvino scrisse Il barone rampante, con particolare attenzione al contesto dell’Einaudi. Usando come bussola cinque parole-chiave – fiaba, Nievo, Storia, Rousseau e isolamento – si tenterà di individuare libri, autori o intere linee editoriali che hanno esercitato un’influenza sull’ideazione e la stesura di questo romanzo.
Celebrating an anniversary means recalling the elapsed time and the way Cosimo Piovasco di Rondo looks his age today; but it also means going back with memory to the time this young disobedient was born. In this way, this paper tries to draw a quick picture of the period in which Italo Calvino wrote The Baron in the Trees, with particular attention to the Einaudi’s background. Using five keywords as compass – fairy tale, Nievo, History, Rousseau and isolation – I will try to identify books, authors or entire editorial lines which had influences on the novel’s conception and writing.
