Keywords: intellectuals, nation, identity, journals Leonardo and Faro, Generation of 1914.

The aim of this essay is to present a comparative analysis between the thoughts on nation and national identity developed in their youth by the Spanish intellectuals of the so-called "Generation of 1914" and their Italian counterparts of the group of writers known as the "vociani". To that end, this work examines the discourses and ideas around those issues expressed in the journals Faro (1908-1909) and Leonardo (1903-1907). Faro was one of the first publishing enterprises backed by José Ortega y Gasset, the acknowledged leader of the Generation of 1914, whereas Leonardo was the equivalent for Giuseppe Prezzolini and Giovanni Papini, two core figures of the "vociani". Both journals voiced the ideas of the young members of both intellectual generations.
