Il saggio analizza la rappresentazione che alcuni scrittori (Giovanni Comisso, Mario Carli e Léon Kochnitzky), volontari fiumani, diedero della loro esperienza a Fiume durante i sedici mesi in cui, dopo la fine della Grande Guerra, la città fu occupata dai legionari di Gabriele D’Annunzio. Dal settembre 1919 al dicembre 1920 si recarono a Fiume futuristi, intellettuali e artisti d’avanguardia vivendo una vita-festa trasgressiva e senza regole, che con Michail M. Bachtin possiamo definire “carnevalizzata”. L’esperienza fiumana trasformò in pratica concreta l’attivismo e l’agonismo delle teorie dell’arte d’avanguardia.

The essay analyzes the representation that several writers (Giovanni Comisso, Mario Carli and Leon Kochnitzky) gave of their experience in Fiume.The writers themselves, who were volunteers in the army of Fiume, gave a portrayal of their life and wrote about the sixteen months spent in the city after the end of the Great War, when Fiume was occupied by the legionnaries led by Gabriele D’Annunzio. From September 1919 to December 1920 futurists, intellectuals and avant-garde artists went to Fiume and lived a trasgressive and excessive life-celebration, which with Michail M. Bachtin we can define “carnivalised”. The experience in Fiume turned the activism and agonism of the theory of avant-garde art into concrete practise.
