De-genderizing crime and deviance. For a critique of the relationship between masculinities and criminology

The first part of this article aims to re-read the assumptions of classic socio-criminological inquiry in order to unveil its gender components, which have informed its theoretical underpinnings, albeit implicitly and in disguise. It then insists on the  ways in which these same theoretical tools have unveiled the fragility undergirding hegemonic masculinities, including their “antagonistic”  constructions. As will become clear, performing masculinity in the context of norms, structural opportunities, and subjective dimensions may take the form of conventional construction processes of hegemonic masculinities at the intersection of the local and the global under neoliberalism.
