La forza fascinosa e interrogante del Barone rampante sta in buona misura nella capacità mostrata da Calvino di realizzare un’opera che valorizza, sul piano di un’argomentazione aperta e problematica, una serie di dispositivi strutturali e formali che trasmettono un’impressione di spazio, suggerendo una visione dell’uomo e del mondo. Il saggio prova a inventariare gli effetti di lettura ottenuti su questo terreno, mettendo a fuoco le principali coordinate figurative e chiavi percettive che ci guidano nell’universo narrativo del testo. Nel sistema di effetti che danno forma all’esperienza mentale-sensibile di chi legge ha un ruolo di spicco il registro del discontinuo: il procedere irregolare e l’intermittenza, l’apparire e lo sparire. In questa prospettiva e anche possibile dare nuovo senso alla sagoma dell’intreccio.
The fascinating and questioning force of the The Baron in the Trees lies mostly in the ability shown by Calvino to create a work that enhances, on the level of an open and problematic argument, a series of  structural and formal devices that convey an impression of space, suggesting a vision of human being and the world. The essay tries to inventory the effects of reading obtained on this terrain, focusing on the main figurative coordinates and perceptual keys that guide us in the narrative universe of the text. In the system of effects that give shape to the mental-sensitive experience of the reader, the register of the discontinuous has a prominent role: the irregular proceeding and the intermittence, the appearance and the disappearance. In this perspective it is also possible to give new meaning to the pattern of the plot.
