This paper studies the reception of Vico in the Spanish daily press between 1868 and 1874, in the socio-political and historical context of the Revolutionary Six-Year Period and the first stage of the Bourbon Restoration. The “New Science” is synonymous with the “Philosophy of History” and Vico is seen as a genius who was misunderstood in his time, but rediscovered in the “century of progress”. This work – although independent and with its own value – is a fourth addendum to El espejo de la época. Capítulos sobre G. Vico en la cultura hispánica (Naples, 2007).
