According to the World Report on Ageing and Health, the world’s  population aged over 60 years will go to nearly 2 billion from the current 900 million; Japan is the country with the longest life expectancy, Italy is second in the world and first in Europe. These demographic changes pose social and health problems that must be addressed not so much from a welfare point of view as by spreading lifestyles that minimize the period of non-self-sufficiency of an individual’s life. The volume provides an overview of the phenomenon of ageing using a multidisciplinary approach and collecting evidences of good practices from different countries, many of which developed in the framework of the tempus Project ctae and presented in various Conferences and international Seminars that were held from 2013 to 2017.

Guido Amoretti

Is full professor of General Psychology at the University of Genoa UNIGE), Department of Science of Education. He deals with changes in cognitive processes over the years and tourism of the third age in relation to an active lifestyle.

Diana Spulber

Is full professor at RUDN (RF). She is a member of the UNESCO Chair on “Anthropology of Health – Biosphere and Healing Systems” UNIGE (IT) and co-coordinator and Project Manager of numerous international projects. She is co-founder of several centres of Third Age Education.

Nicoletta Varani

È professore ordinario di Geografia nel Dipartimento di Scienze della formazione dell’Università degli Studi di Genova, dove coordina anche il corso di laurea magistrale in Valorizzazione dei territori e turismi sostenibili. Tra i suoi ambiti di ricerca vi sono gli aspetti geosociali e geopolitici dell’Africa sub-sahariana e dei piccoli Stati insulari africani. È autrice di volumi di geografia sociale e interculturale nonché di politica ambientale e turismo, tra cui La condizione della donna in Africa sub-sahariana (con A. Primi; Limena, pd 2011) e Africa in tempo di COVID-19. Riflessioni di antropologia medica e di geografia della salute (con A. Siri; Limena, PD 2022).
